A year after "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems" Galileo is sentenced by the Inquisition to imprisonment, commuted to house arrest, for vehement suspicion of heresy in violating the 1616 injunction.

About a ball falling from the mast of a ship, in his dialogue, the interlocutor exclaims: come on, you didn't do this experiment once, and he replies: you're right, I don't have to.
