As the US continues to trade, they begin to look like a threat to Japan. While trading with Australia, the Japanese decide to attack the ships with their planes. This began the first naval battle fought in the air and it lasted for two days. The Japanese eventually lost and retreated which destroyed their plans to cut off the shipping lanes and invade Australia.
