maire goes to see maia to hear the results of the tests, maia tells her that it's weak, but there's still some evidence left of shade in alys's blood
maire asks her what exactly shade is bc she's not big on drug lingo
maia explans that it's basically just tobacco (it's only been on the caledoan black market for some ten years or so) but chemically enhanced, and when smoked or in snuff form, it's bascially just a more rotten version of a normal cigarette, but when snorted or shot into the bloodstream, it can become incredibly dangerous and it's easy to overdose on
she's been experimenting on it and has a small dose of it for maire to see
maire smells it and it smells kinda like vanilla
and now she's freaking out, bc that's what kano sometimes smells of, too, and she's really starting to wonder if he's the killer
zaya also gives her what's basically a molotov cocktail in miniature, bc she's getting worried and she's all 'just in case, use it wisely'
so maire goes to confront him
maire sends a little page boy at the castle to tell kano she wants to see him on magdana's place in half an hour (where it's kinda open and she's still in control, but also isolated enough so that he won't be scared off)
she goes and waits for him, he shows up, they talk for a bit, he asks what's really going on, and she starts presenting all the evidence in a very leading way
he's all 'what, u think i did it?' and when she doesn't correct him, that's when he gets really upset
she's all 'idk what to believe right now'
then elias shows up and is all 'this man is dangerous, i'm gonna take care of him, ll's orders'
maire protests bc kano is still her buddy, but elias attacks him
they scuffle a bit, and maire ends up killing elias
kano tells her to run, and she does
just ten-thirty minutes later, she comes back to clean up her mess like she's been trained to do, but the body's been fixed up like the third sinner, the man who steals people, and maire is horrified bc 1. she didn't see what kano did after, and 2. he's the only one she's told about what happened four years ago
he's also been stabbed multiple times
she goes back to the castle , understandably freaked out, and the only thing she can really think to do is go see ll bc, yknow, elias worked for her, too
she tells her that elias is dead
ll asks what happened
maire kinda stutters out an explanation, mentioning that kano was there and all
ll asks her if she saw her leave
maire, panicked, is all 'n-no, i didn't, i just ran as fast as i could' or smth
she's freaking out is what, she's not really thinking through her words
and that's why ll has him arrested
maire doesn't say she thinks he did it bc she doesn't really, never truly did, she was just considering it
