Descripción:
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was an NBA player who played for the Denver nuggets in the 1990s. He is well known for his decision not to stand for the national anthem in the 1995-96 NBA season. He stated that he would not stand for the national anthem because the flag was a symbol of oppression. NBA Commissioner David Stern suspended Abdul-Rauf. Eventually, they came to an agreement about the type of protest Abdul-Rauf could do (close his eyes), but Abdul-Rauf’s playing time went down because of his actions and 5 years later, his house was burned down. Still, looking back on the events, Abdul-Rauf said he had no regrets for his protest.
