At approximately 4:00 am on March 28th, 1879, the pilot-operated relief valve somehow got stuck closed, causing the liquid cooling system to stop. The reactors did shut themselves off which avoided a meltdown originally. Yet because of a few errors in the operation, there was a massive loss in the coolant coming from the reactor's core. This then left the reactor's core partially exposed leading to a massive build-up of hydrogen gas. This hydrogen gas later leaked into the containment vessel of the reactor building. Luckily very few radioactive gases were leaked into the atmosphere, so there was little to no threat to anyone's health. While this may seem like a mildly concerning incident compared to most nuclear accidents since nobody's health was threatened, there were other after-affect problems, such as a ban on the licensing of any new nuclear projects and the closing of seven different reactors like Three-Mile Island.
