1 ene 1832 año - CCCC land obtained
by United States
Descripción:
CCCC property obtained by the United States in September 1832:
The area that is now Washington County was obtained by the United States in the midst of a series of controversial treaties that displaced the Sauk, Meskwaki, Ioway, and other Native American nations from Iowa. The Crooked Creek Christian Camp property in particular, came with a land cession demanded of the Sauk and Meskwaki as a penalty for the Black Hawk War of 1832. Because Black Hawk and his people refused to give up their land west of the Mississippi, the Sauk and Meskwaki were forced to cede almost 10,000 square miles of land immediately east of the Mississippi, called the Black Hawk Purchase. This penalty was agreed to by Chief Keokuk and other chiefs that the United States had designated as Sauk and Meskwaki representatives.
