Oldest prehistoric site in Washington County dates to at least 3000 b.c.e.:
There are almost 500 recorded prehistoric archaeological sites within Washington County, including some very close to this property. In fact, 1 to 2 of those sites are on the same square mile sections as Camp. There are at least 5 other prehistoric sites within a mile of here, and 51 to 59 of them within five miles. In other words, any one of the people from whom those 51 to 59 artifacts all those years ago was close enough to Camp to walk here in less than two hours. At least a few of those people likely did so, and there were certainly many others who also walked over these hills or along this creek in prehistoric times. A small stone knife was in fact discovered on the CCCC property, although it does not qualify as a full-scale archaeological site and its exact time period would be very difficult to determine. Some of the prehistoric archaeological sites here in Washington County are ancient, believed to be at least 5,000 years old. That is, while the community that eventually formed Crooked Creek Christian Camp goes back less than ten generations, people of some group or another have called this place home for millennia.
