The proposed German invasion, Operation Weserübung was made to invade the Kingdom of Norway to secure Germany's steel and iron supply which was important for Germany's war effort.

However, the highly risky operation through the North Sea will be impassable for the Germans because the presence of many vessels in the cold winter will give the campaign highly unfavourable conditions to fight in on the land.
