On 12 January the opening of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union took place. At first, the wards were opened separately. On 17 January a joint session of the Supreme Soviet was held, at which the head of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, Mikhail Kalinin, was elected.
