Argued that black people should be proud of their heritage. Unofficial founder of the Black Power Movement. Did not think black people should integrate into white society; he believed in separatism, militarism, and black nationalism. Joined the Nation of Islam, a group that combined Islam with black nationalist ideas. He helped grow the group through protest and speeches. He had a falling out with the Nation over the assassination of JFK; he believed it had been an expression of society reaping the consequences of violence. The nation didn't like that comment, and MX eventually left. He was later assassinated by Nation members.
