An unsuccessful action by a CIA-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba, with support and encouragement from the U.S. government, in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro, which was backed Russia. Ultimately failed. The plan was to get locals to revolt, but that didn't happen. The invaders (who were just trained civilian refugees) were all killed or captured. Fostered a lot of anti-war sentiment.
