Rs nominate Herbert Hoover who was previously secretary of commerce. Known for foreign aid during and after WW1 when he ran the Food Admin. Ds ran Alfred E Smith, governor of NY who supported workers' rights. He lost big time tho because he was Catholic and he opposed prohibition. Even some democratic states voted for Hoover.
