1 jul 1913 año - Environmental Movement
Descripción:
People upset about the destruction of nature caused by expansion (ex deforestation, endangering bison). 2 main approaches: preservation (protection of buildings, objects, and landscapes) and conservation (protection of natural resources). A preservationist would be John Muir, a conservationist would be Gifford Pinchot. Question was how public land should be used. Debate peaked over Hetch Hetchy (1913), a decision over whether to build a dam in Yosemite to provide water to SF. Decided to build the dam. Conservationist policies most often benefited the nation's financial interests. Environmental laws often ended up hurting minorities. Overall, environmentalism intersected with public health in a lot of places, like helping clean up cities. Women a big part of this movement.
