A large number of railroad workers went on strike because of wage cuts. Several states sent in the militia who ended up killing dozens of protestors. After a month of strikes, President Hayes sent troops to stop the strike. The worst violence was in Pittsburgh, with over 40 people killed by militia men. Workers destroyed 40 mil worth of property.
