8 feb 1887 año - Dawes General Allotment Act

Descripción:

With further expansion, people began to argue that Natives were getting more than their fair share of land. Led to this act, which split up reservations, giving each Native family 160 acres. Had to choose where in the res they wanted it within 4 years. If not, someone would choose for them. Allotments could not be sold for 25 years. Unclaimed land would revert back to the gov. Also increased power of US gov over tribal govs.
