Nez Perce refused to go to a reservation. Tried to flee to the Canadian border led by Chief Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt aka Joseph. Battled across a thousand miles and were attacked 24 times before they surrendered from exhaustion and hunger. Removed to a reservation. Joseph became kind of a celebrity because of his skilled speeches. Used that to negotiate a new reservation nearer to the Nez Perce homeland.
