Gave voting rights to black men. Women's right activists were upset that the right wasn't extended to them. The National Women's Suffrage Association, including Stanton and Anthony, wanted to fight the Amendment as they thought white women deserved the right before black men. This prompted supporters of the amendment split off to form the American Women's Suffrage Association.
