Occurred in October of 1859. John Brown attempted to create a major slave revolt. He wanted to commandeer a boat carrying arms and ride down the river and provide slaves with said arms. He was captured by Robert E Lee before he could pull it off though. Many revolutionaries were killed. He was executed. The North made a huge show of grief, pissing off the South. Republicans don't associate themselves with him in order to maintain a peaceful appearance.
