Because of the diverse geography and climate of the southern colonies, the economy was prosperous. The farms were as big as 2,000 acres, and some required slave craftworkers. The products consisted of tobacco in Chesapeake and North Carolina, timber in the Carolinas, and rice and indigo in South Carolina and Georgia. The southern colonies were significant due to the fact that they were located on rivers and could ship exports directly to Europe.
