Spanish South America was in turmoil in the 1810s and the US saw this as an opportunity to acquire florida. Spain was already facing conflicts in the Georgian border with raiders, so in 1819, the Floridian territory was bought by the US. This further increased US influence in North America, as well as decreasing European influence in the region.
