Slavery debate emerges again with CA, UT, and NM. Clay and Stephen Douglas (mostly Douglas, Clay leaves halfway through because he's tired of compromising) create Compromise of 1850. Said UT and NM would vote on it. Also introduced a stricter Fugitive Slave law to keep the South happy and allowed those suing for freedom to go directly to the supreme court for the North. CA is a free state. Slave trade banned in DC, but slavery itself allowed. Texas has to give land to NM.
