Descripción:

FLQ (Front de liberation du Quebec) crisis is a French revolutionary movement founded to work for an independent, socialist Quebec, although using violent methods. In October 1970, members of FLQ kidnapped British diplomat James Cross and demanded the release of the FLQ members serving prison sentences and a public reading of the FLQ manifesto. Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa agree the second condition but refused the first one. FLQ then kidnapped the Quebec Labour Minister Pierre Laporte. The federal government was angry and Trudeau imposed the War Measures Act--- the act passed during the First World War giving the government emergency powers in the event of a national crisis. Federal government sent troops to patrol the streets of Ottawa and Montreal. FLQ killed Pierre Laporte. They increased pressure on the government to crack down on the FLQ and find the remaining hostage, James Cross.
