The Omaha platform by the Populist party called reforms on both political and economic standpoints. It demanded to increase the power of common voters with the direct popular election of senators and to begin using procedures that allowed citizens to vote with those proposed laws. Economically, they advocated for the unlimited coins of silver, and in Contacts, federal ownership of railroads, telegraph, and telephone systems to be operated by the government, loans, and federal warehouses for farmers, and an 8-hour workday. During the election of 1892, The populist party lost due to the fear from southern Democrats that the populist party was trying to Unite poor Blacks and whites.
