Augusts begins opening doors within the house, seemingly at random while muttering strange phrases. He claims to be able to reach fantastical places using this method. He writes his findings in a book he titles "Hygromanteia". He dedicates it to "Solomon".

Augusts completes Hygromanteia and is contacted by an entity called Bael. Bael tells Augustus will birth the "king of this world". Augustus writes this in a letter to his son, Gabriel, and then hangs himself. All of Augustus' possessions were sold, including his notes, Hygromanteia, and other ephemera. Some of his work was missing, though.

Edouard Allard, Augustus' servant, delivers a letter to clockmaker Dominic Antonin in Rouin, France. Gabriel Chastaigne apprentices with Antonin later this year.
