Descripción:

An anti-immigrant party. Disliked Irish immigrants because they were Catholic. Members mostly in cities. Espoused that immigrants were stealing jobs and creating crime (sound familiar?). Thought that the Pope was trying to take over America. Were most popular in the 1840s with new immigration from Europe. Eventually merged with the Whig party and ended when it collapsed.
