The first fully-CGI animated film. During production, director John Lasseter and executive producer Steve Jobs both believed they were on the cusp of making film history (Snider, 1995). To help audiences embrace this new style of animation, the filmmakers “sought to stay within the limits of what might be done in a live- action film with real cameras, tripods, dollies, and cranes” (Price, 2008). Working in three dimensions was a challenge for the animators, many of whom weren’t “computer people”. To help them, the modellers kept the character models simple so that they would be easy to animate. Some characters like Sid’s dog were modelled physically in clay first before being scanned into the computer (Snider, 1995).
