The Confederates made a constitution that resembled the U.S Constitution and it gave the President a 6 year term and the power to veto only a part of a bill. It denied the congress levy a protective tariff and appropriate funds for internal improvements. It prohibit the forgein slave trade. President Jefferson David wanted to increase his executive power, but Southerners didn't let him. The Confederacy was short of money and tried loans and income taxes and impressment of private property. It only paid for a little of the war. Corner Stone Speech : This speech was delivered by Alexander Stephens in 1861 in which he argues that slavery is natural; African Americans were always supposed to be inferior to whites, so the nation was doing a great job. The nation was built on this inhumane practice that some individuals like Stephens and Southerners claimed at the time to be the right thing to do.
