In the United State's continued policy of movingIndians west, in order to allow white southerners to use Indian land for mining and cotton farming; the U.S. government convinced a small group of Cherokee to sign this treaty. Even though they did not have the trie's permission to sign this treaty which gave the U.S. Cherokee land for money, Congress approved it.
