Following the events of World War I, the global economy was in decline. Everything came to a halt in October of 1929 when the stock market crashed in the U.S. sending thousands into disarray. People began to remove their money from the banks to protect their investments and caused banks around the world to close down. Soon after, many found themselves unemployed and wondering were there next meal might be coming from.
