1 ene 1867 año - Social Stratification
Descripción:
Social classes in China were based on that of Confucian Tradition. At the top (besides the emperor and his family) were privileged classes, such as the gentry who owned the majority of the land, and scholar-bureaucrats. They were easy to identify, thanks to their distinctly colored clothing. In the middle were the working classes, employees to those higher up- peasants, respected for their honest and important work, artisans/workers who encompassed many professions and were higher paid, and merchants. Merchants were the least respected, and seen as social parasites. Despite this they were able to gain support thanks to bribery, and were able to put their sons into positions that could win them power in higher places.
