16 oct 1968 año - Black Power Salute 1968 Olympics
Descripción:
During the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, 200 meter gold medalist Tommie Smith and bronze medalist John Carlos bowed their heads and raised a fist during the Star-Spangled Banner while on the podium to protest the racial injustice occuring in America. Also, they received their medals shoe-less, with black socks to symbolize black poverty, and with bead-necklasses in a prayer for those lynched in America. The event is regarded as one of the most overtly political statements in the history of the Olympic Games.
