Before Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor, America had been tentative to actually physically engage in the act of war. America had often been supplying the Allied powers with supplies, but never actively sent units in to fight; however, after the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, which caused heavy American casualties, America promptly declared their entrance into World War II.
