The great diminishing of the river's flow caused some of its shallower parts to dry up completely in the warmer seasons of the Cycle, leading to draughts across the lower Canyon. This development led to bad harvests that Cycle, and by the turn of the next one the Redfolk that still contested the usurping Sunborn saw no other choice but to surrender.
