In October 1919 while Deniken's Volunteer Army was attacking
Moscow, its rear areas were wiped out by the Makhnovist corps.
The insurgents liberated a huge region from Yekaterinoslav and
Nikopol to Melitopol and Berdyansk. The building of a new life
was begun.
