Eddie, with whom she has been corresponding extensively through letters, drives over to meet Sylvia for the first time. He drove her home for 3 hours but Sylvia claimed she was dating someone else and while she was awkward, he was shy. Eddie turns back to drive 32 hours to Chicago, and later enters therapy.
