Descripción:

Mexican and American officials could not agree on the border between the two countries. The Mesilla Valley just north of El Paso, Texas had very fertile land made it desirable to both countries. James Gadsden went to Mexico City to negotiate a settlement and essentially bought more land for $10 million.
