While the footwear choices of fashion insiders tend to render skateboarding next to impossible, we predict the latest venture from W Hotels of New York will entice the fashion pack to kick off their stilettos in favor of something a little more street-worthy. The luxury hotel chain tapped extreme-skater-turned-filmmaker Ray Mendez to create Room and Boards, a line of custom skateboards benefitting STOKED.org's mission to support underprivileged NYC children through extreme sports. Mendez looked to the worlds of fashion, art and sports for inspiration, calling on Cara Delevingne, David LaChapelle, Zana Bayne, graffiti artist Cope2 and New York Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire to each design a board with New York City in mind. The result? Rolling works of art, ranging from a nude image of Cara to Bayne's signature harness motif.
