June 1, 1812 Madison asks Congress to declare war. BR with Tecumseh were strong. US Navy was
strong and gained control of Lake Erie. Tecumseh died in the Battle of Thames. This war ended the British-Native
American alliance. Creek Indians were forced to give up most of their land. Britain took Washington, D.C. December
1814 Peace Agreement. Andrew Jackson makes a name for himself at the Battle of New Orleans (he’ll be POTUS in
1828). This war earned US respect.
