20 abr 1971 año - Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenberg

Descripción:

This case set the guidelines for all future cases involving segregation in schools. It stated that to violate the constitution the school had to hav engaged in discrimination, which includes the existance of all white or all black schools in districts with a history of segregation. It also said that the remedy for past discrimination would include freedom of choice but also could include racial quotas, redrawing district lines, and court ordered busing. This case was origninated in Mecklenburg County, North Caroline where the school board assigned pupils to the nearest schol regardless of race. The district judge held this was inadequate integration and ordered some children to be bused to further schools. The supreme court led by Chief Justice Warren urger upheld this decision.
