The Roman Republic was a form of government created by the Romans in 509 BCE after the last king, Tarquinius Superbus, was removed from power. The Roman Republic consisted of the Roman senate which contained 300 citizens. The senate would then choose two consuls who were like the king but had limited power. One consul controlled the army and the other controlled the government.
