The Pueblo Revolt was the revolt of the Pueblo people who were under the leadership of Chief Pope. They Pueblo people revolted against the encomienda in modern-day New Mexico. They seized Santa Fe in 1680, but the Spanish recaptured it in 1692. Although Santa Fe was recaptured, the revolt led to the end of the encomienda, which allowed for there to be more religious freedom for Indians, and cultural hybridity.Key Concept 1.2: 3
