The Spanish Armada was a Spanish fleet consisting of around 130 ships with the intention to take England and restore Catholicism to the British Isles. This was a plot of King Phillip II of Spain to overthrow Elizabeth I of England. These two had had bad relations previously with English privateers raiding Spanish fleets. The Spanish suffered a great defeat in this. They were battered by storms and outmaneuvered by the English, it was a humiliating defeat. This created an era of English nationalism and was the start of an era of English naval supremecy.
