A group of Hong Kong academics, cultural figures and social workers launched a hunger strike to demand the Hong Kong government to ensure that the District Council election in a few days' time would not be cancelled or postponed, and to announce a specific timetable for the implementation of genuine universal suffrage within a month; and requested the Chief Executive Carrie Lam to direct the police not to attack protesters in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University without being provoked.
