The Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council responded to Hong Kong's request, hoping that the two sides would meet under the principle of equality and reciprocity. It also stated that it had made three requests for mutual legal assistance to Hong Kong in March, May and December 2018 for Chan's case, and had proposed a meeting between the two sides in November 2018, but Hong Kong did not respond to these requests and refused to meet.
