She frets extensively over whether or not she will be invited to school dances, as an invitation is a marker of social achievement. Poems suggest she was "in love," with one man, Perry, yet he states that there interaction was very innocent. After a date with John, she worries of him telling everyone she is "strait-laced," while one friend at that time said she was "boy crazy."
