* The USA and Britain agreed to open a 'second front' on Germany in Western Europe in May 1944. This was to ease pressure on the USSR where they were suffering heavy losses. Churchill was reluctant because he had wanted to open the second front in the Balkans, not in the West. However, Roosevelt sided with Stalin on this.
