Blockade designed by Napoleon in an attempt to wreck British trade by cutting them off from engaging in trade with the rest of Europe. Countries that were neutral or allied to France couldn’t trade with Great Britain anymore. This backfired as England turned to worldwide trade, like the Americas, Asia, Africa, etc and enacted a counter blockade against these nations. The British navy would intercept ships coming from places like the Americas, turning them around if they weren’t headed to British ports. International trade in Great Britain boomed, while French trade stagnated and citizens were displeased as the economy and access to goods like sugar and tobacco suffered.
