Napoleon’s troops engage with Prussian troops at the joint locations of Jena and Auerstadt after Prussia and Russia align and begin advancing westward. Napoleon attacks Prussian troops before Russian reinforcements can arrive. By mid-afternoon, the Prussian army at Jena is overwhelmed. During the fighting in Auerstadt, the commander of the Prussian army is fatally wounded. This, combined with news of French victory at Jena dampens the Prussian morale, and the French artillery overwhelms the Prussian forces by 4pm. Prussia sustains losses of 24 000 casualties and 20 000 men are captured. Napoleon’s army suffers comparative losses of only 12 000.Añadido al timeline:
