Around 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle report. Deputies tried to pull the vehicle over, and the driver, Skyleur Young, fled. The chase made its way south down the Cajon Pass and onto the 215 Freeway before Young merged onto the westbound 210 and lost control, causing the SUV to spin out and crash. Young got out and pointed a handgun at the deputies. At least one deputy shot and killed him.
