Yuri Gagarin was a cosmonaut who was the first man in space. He orbited Earth one time before crashing back to Earth, experiencing eight times the force of gravity. He ejected from his capsule, the Vostok-1, at 6100 metres and parachuted to Earth. Unfortunately, the governing body for aerospace records, the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) required that the pilot land with the capsule. Soviet authorities covered this fact up, however, and only revealed this fact in 1971. Regardless, however, Yuri Gagarin still passed a milestone as the first man to transcend Earth's orbit into space.Añadido al timeline:
